Computer Terms Glossary Part 1 Read the following and take the test:
Bullet: A character such as a . or a * at the beginning of a line that helps to make lists stand out. Here's an Example:
Bulleted List: A list where each item begins with a bullet.
Byte: 8 bits; each byte represents one character, for example 00011000.
CD-R: A type of CD to which you can save files; "R" stands for recordable
CD-R Drive:
A drive that can read a CD and also can WRITE data, music, and
software on a CD-R.
CD-ROM: an optical storage media, stores more data than a floppy, looks like a shiny flat,round disk.
CD-ROM Drive: the hardware that the computer uses to read what is on the CD-ROM
Character: letters, numbers, and symbols
Click: to press and release the mouse button
Clip Art: a group of pictures included with the software that you can search for and put in a document or presentation.
Close: What you do to a file when you finish working on it.
Color Box: Contains many different colors to use with drawing tools.
Command: Telling the computer what to do.
Computer: a machine that accepts data (input), processes data to produce information (output). Computers can help you learn, play games, and do math.
Computer Program: Another name for software.
Copy Button: copies the text in a special area of the computer's memory (sometimes called the clipboard), and leave the original text in place
Copyright: the person who created the work also owns the work
CPU: The CPU (Central Processing Unit) is the chip which is the brains of the computer. It is also known as the processor. The CPU processes data and instructions. It does calculations and does what the software programs tell it to do. The CPU is the most important part of a computer.
Cursor: (Insertion Point) When keyboarding, it is the blinking line on the screen where the character will appear.
